A better alternative than planning in kilos

17 de December de 2025

In the pack-houses where we have worked, they planned in kilograms, in thousands of kilograms. It is a simple, historical indicator that gave the pack-house and the company managers quick information about the day’s performance, but we can propose a much better model to you.

Let us give you some examples that surely sound familiar:

  • If the pack-house is producing more than 18,000 kilos per hour, it is using resources adequately.
  • If the pack-house is packing more than 200 kilos per hour per operator, it is making optimal use of resources.
  • The pack-house’s packing capacity is 20,000 kilos per hour, or 20 tons per hour. If demand for today is 250 tons, it will be needes to work about 12 and a half hours, plus the orders that come in throughout the day and whatever can be brought forward from tomorrow’s orders, so two shifts are needed.

Let us take you to a different world before continuing to talk about metrics. Did you know that the first cars didn’t have a rear-view mirror? The first patent for a commercial rear-view mirror in the United States dates back to 1921 and was patented as a “cop spotter.” The reality is that they started being used earlier, around 1906, in France and Germany. In 1911, the driver who won the first edition of the Indianapolis 500 installed a rear-view mirror that allowed him to dispense with the riding mechanic who watched the rear traffic. If you visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, you can see that car.

The Fresh Planner provides you with the speedometer, the rear-view mirror, and other functions so you can get much more out of your pack-house’s capabilities.

You know that kilos per hour depend on the type of technology required for each order you receive, and this can vary greatly depending on whether it is manual packing, automatic packing, bulk, netting, flowpack, etc.

With The Fresh Planner, you will be able to squeeze every hour and minute of work because we calculate the hours, minutes, and seconds needed to produce each order from the moment it is received. Does that sound strange? I understand. Years passed before rear-view mirrors became a standard feature in all automobiles.

Are you going to wait for “the traffic authorities to make the rear-view mirror mandatory,” or are you going to take the opportunity to be better than your competition while the advantage lasts?
